The 4-step estimation method, a well-known method for estimating demand, is applied to forecast passenger demand. Figure 5.5-1 shows the flow for such estimation.

The year 2003 is used to forecast passenger demand because the facility improvement project between Bangkok and Chiang Mai is expected to complete in 2003 and the entire line section will start enjoying high speed train operation.
